"Real" Lolita Hobbies

I'm on flue-medication, bare with me! My brain feels all fluffy and weird.

I hope you didn't take my last blog entry too seriously. I was in the mood to write a kind of shallow and ridiculously clichéd blog post, which doesn't mean you are shallow or clichéd if you do enjoy these hobbies. I practise 6,5 out of 8 of them! It also doesn't mean you are not a good Lolita if you don't enjoy them. I guess I wanted to make clear that a fashion should not dictate what kind of hobbies you have.

Now, here is an incomplete list of things I like to do in my spare time other than Lolita-related things:

- getting my nerd core on and gaming like a BOSS!!

I carry my nintendo DS in Hello Kitty case. Just for the record, I own a first generation Nintendo DS, it's so old, it's almost considered vintage :D

- getting my nerd core on and collecting "Lord of the rings"-themed stuff like a BOSS!!
I own a Minas Tirith bookend and 3 copies of the book itself ^^

- getting my nerd core on and watching SciFi and Fantasy series like a BOSS!!
Star Trek, Dr Who, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, True Blood, Fringe, Supernatural, etc, not Andromeda though because I can't stand Hercules not playing Hercules ^^

- getting my nerd core on and drooling over Star Wars merchandise like a BOSS!!
I want a Storm Trooper uniform so bad!

So, you see, I'm a nerd, a BOSS!! (like a boss) and a Lolita ^^ Have fun with this wonderful fashion!

And seriously, don't take me too serious. Flue-medication does funny things to me! Vampires suck... oh god... I can't stop laughing about that!

Pefect Lolita Hobbies

Whenever I get bored and I feel like I have nothing to do, I tend to say one specific sentence: "I need a hobby!" So, what's the perfect Lolita hobby?

- Playing the piano

Or the violin, cello, flute... Basically any kind of elegant looking instrument. Maybe not the sax(ophone) or the drums but I would really love to see a Lolita jazz band :D

- Knitting and crocheting
You could do Amigurumi, lace collars, whole cut sews, wristcuffs, head dresses... the possibilities are endless!

- Embroidering
Sitting in front of a fireplace with a embroidery frame, embroidering unicorns on a pillow. No doesn't that just sound like a perfect Lolita moment?

- Deco den
It's sweet, it's kawaii and it comes from Japan. It doesn't get any more perfect!

- Travelling
to Japan of course... and Paris and San Francisco... everywhere where Lolita shops are!

- Collecting Lolita artwork
This could be books, DVDs, magazines, drawings, really everything Lolita-related.

- Hair styling, Make-up, Nail design
Anything beauty-related because we want to look even more beautiful than we really are! Who doesn't want that?

- Having your picture taken
Admit it, we are all picture-addicts!

Blogger App

I just need to see how my Blogger App works ^-^
This is the church I live next to.

Works like a charm! Now I can blog from my phone. That's insane! I got my first phone 8 years ago and its display was in black and white!

Prom Night!

Yesterday was my sisters prom and since she visits the same school I visited, I decided to go to the prom.

First I have to tell you, the city where my ex-school is, is in my opinion the most horrible city to be a Lolita. 90% of the population are ignorant, rude people. There are many schools, so you have a lot of young people, especially at the train station. I hated to wait for my train/bus to arrive. I'm trying to stay positive and I don't like to use the word hate because it's so negative and you shouldn't waste so much energy on such a negative thing but I really hated to be at the train station. I'm tough but that was too much for me.

Now that you know about my feelings for this city, you can probably understand that I didn't feel very excited about this prom. But it meant a lot to my sister and it was nice to see some of my old teachers.
Weeks before the prom I was thinking about what to wear to this prom. A plain prom dress and a put-up hairdo? Or full on eccentricity? Yeah... you guessed it!

I'm wearing my "Afternoon Garden" dress from Angelic Pretty (I spend so much money on that dress, I have to wear it as often as possible XD), my Rock Star Wig and a handmade crown (looks better from the front, though). The shoes were killing me after half an hour but I stayed strong through out the night ^^

Trough out the night, there was one thing I was told over and over again: "I didn't recognize you." But how could they not recognize me? They all spend at least 2 years with me and already saw me in my Lolita outfits. I was wearing Lolita everyday when I was still in school. I'm not the most creative girl that ever visited that school but probably the most uncommon one. So, who did they think would dress up like this besides me? ^^

My German teacher complimented me on my nice hair. I didn't tell him it's a wig. He is not into this whole fashion-thingy (FYI it's a fashion-school, just in case you didn't know that) and he didn't know what to say. He obviously wanted to say something nice. I couldn't take that away from him.
My management teacher smiled at me and gave me that "only-you-would-come-dresses-up-like-this"-look but in a positive way. She organises the prom and I think she truly appreciates creativity. Somehow.
That may sound mean but I'm glad my form teacher wasn't at the prom. I never got along with her even though I think she was the best pattern drawing teacher in school. I don't know what she would have said about my outfit but I fear it would not have been so positive, in a way that she finds funny. Sometimes people try to be funny but insult you  instate without noticing that they hurt you. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to deal with her.

That entry is getting quiet long and non-Lolita-related. Sorry for that. I just had to get this off my chest. Did you ever have a similar experience? Tell me in the comments below!

Blouse: Yes but No!

I was asked if I could write a tutorial on how to sew a blouse. My answer to that:

yes but no but yes but no but yes but no... (if you get the reference, here is an imaginary cookie for you!)

Yes of course I can write down how to sew a blouse. I've done that several times, it was part of my education. But that's the problem. I'm trained to write working plans for people who are trained to read and understand them.

I'm having a hard time explaining technical terms because I never had to. Another thing would be that I never had to write a working plan in English. And the last thing... there are so many different designs that are sewn differently! For example, there are 3 different kind of button tapes, 4 different kind of collars, 7 different kind of sleeves (that I can think off on the top of my head), 2 different kind of cuffs and for a cuff you need a sleeve vent. I know 4 different ways how to sew a sleeve vent.
You see where this is heading? I can't just write one tutorial because if you change the design, it's very possible that the tutorial won't help you any longer.

So, I'm still thinking about if I should really do this. It would be sooo much work, not only sewing and writing it but also answering your questions. And there will be questions! Because I'm not good at explaining things ^^ Even though I want to help you and I want to show you how it's done, I'm not sure if I can handle all the work. I had half a year (18 hours a week) of training before I could sew a blouse and I had my teacher, who always told me the next step. Blouses are one of the most advanced things to sew :/

I hope you will understand my reasons if  I decide not to show you how it's done. I'm still thinking about it and trying to figure out how to do it if I do it. But I can't promise anything!

Lolita-hairstyles for short hair - the fro!

Writing a hair-tutorial is a point on my list and I put it on there because I always felt like there aren't many hair-tutorials for short hair. My hair is a bit longer than shoulder-length at the moment and when I first cut it to that length, I had to figure out what hairstyles I can do with it. Believe me, you can do some pretty sweet stuff with it.

The first thing I want to show you is "the fro". Wikipedia says:
"Fro may refer to:
  • "Fro", slang for Afro, a hairstyle in the form of a big puff"
A hairstyle in the form of a big puff. Now isn't that just perfect for Lolita? I think it is! It works best if your hair is about shoulder-length. I feel like my hair is getting a bit too long for it. You will need some kind of curlers, the thinner the better. I'm using curlpaper (Papilloten, für alle aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum) made out of foam but you could use paper strips or pieces of toilet paper. Don't use newspapers though, the ink could stain your hair.

These are the curlers that I use. I got them for under 3€ I think and they are really good and not that uncomfortable to sleep on. To get the best outcome, I put the curlers in at night, I either just came out of the shower and my hair is freshly washed or I wet it after I put the curlers in with a spray bottle and some water. If you keep the curlers in over night, your hair has several hours to dry. It needs to be completely dry when you take out the curlers otherwise the curls won't stay in your hair.
I always start off on the back of my head because this is the hardest part to reach. I part my hair in the middle, separate a small section down the middle and clip the rest of the hair out of the way.

Once I'm done with the back I do the rest of my hair. The smaller the sections of hair you take, the better for the fro because you want really tight, small curls. After you done your whole head, if your hair is already wet, you can now leave it like this and go to bed. If it's not wet, get a spray bottle with some water and spray your hair. Make sure your whole head is evenly damp.
My hair is really thin and dries fast. However if your hair is thicker and needs longer to dry, I would recommend that you use the second method. That way your hair is "only" damp and not wet all the way through and it will dry quicker. The outcome is the same.

This is what your hair should look like after you took the curlers out, tight, tiny curls all over your head. Don't brush it! Firstly, try do run a comb through it, it won't work anyway ^^ Secondly, you don't want to loosen up the curls too much. I run my fingers through the curls, very gently, whip my head back and for (oh media, you ruined me for life XD) to separate the hair and bring some volume into the curls.

And this is what you end up with. I think it's so darn cute! You can leave the fro as it is and just put a head bow on or whatever you like. Or you could style it a little.

You can put your hair into very curly sidebuns. Just part your hair down the middle and put it into pigtales with 1 scrunchy on each side. Or you make one giant bun on the top of your head. Pull your hair up and put a hair tie around it. But for this hair style I would make the plait first and put the curlers in when the hair is in the plait. That way you don't have to worry about smoothing out the sides of your head with all the curlyness going on.

I hope you liked this tutorial! Tell me if you want a tutorial for any other hair style ^^

It's half-time! 75 days left for my challenge. I wasn't able to cross too many things from my list. Some things seemed pretty easy when I wrote the list and some of them now seem impossible to do or are really not possible. For example, I'm not going to university this semester, so I won't be able to cross number 3 (Wear Lolita to university) off.
- Order from Closet Child for the first time (no money atm -.-)
- Organize or at least attend a Lolita Christmas-party (seems like there won't be a Christmas-party this year and I can't organize one like planned)
- Finish your Lolita coat you started to sew last November (simply don't want to...)

But I sewed a chiffon blouse. I somehow forgot to blog about it ^^

I was wearing it on Halloween and to the last meet-up last Saturday. I didn't blog about the meet-up either... I didn't feel like it XD (also, what happend to my face in this picture? o___ô looks horrible!)

Here you can see the blouse better. It's a red version of my blue chiffon blouse, I sewed for the Angelic Pretty Tea Party. This is actually the only picture where you can see the blouse quite well. I'm posing with Jana-Ellena form "Nerd Sweetmeat" (hai gurl hai).

At the moment I'm a sucker for outfits that incorporate red. I love my red headbow (I will try to post a tutorial soon), I love my red heart shaped glasses, I allways loved my red shoes. Red is just an AWESOME colour.

What do you love to wear at the moment? Tell me in the comments below.

A Lovestory

I hardly ever look around the Lolita-shops (no matter if it is brand, offbrand, Taobao, etc...) so I'm never up to date with all the new stuff. That being said, today I found out that they made a replica out of one of my favourite Baby, the stars shine bright JSKs.

Left you have the original and right the replicas. I remember that I wanted that print pretty badly. It was one of the first dresses that I was willed to spend hundreds of Euro on. This still doesn't happen very often, I rather sew my own stuff.
But I didn't purchase it in the end because it was a winter-themed dress and I didn't want to buy a dress that I couldn't wear all year. Well, yes I could but it would feel weird to wear a dress with ice skating bunnies in summer.

Now, of course, I was thinking about buying the replica because it's inexpensive and that way I wouldn't spend a ton of money on a dress that I could only wear in winter. But I don't think I will buy it. I looked at the pictures and it came to me, that the replica would not make me happy :/

The dresses look good at first but if you take a closer look, they are kind of sad looking. The quality suffers if you produce a dress that cheap and if it was any other dress, I wouldn't mind. But I fell in love with this particular dress and I don't want to settle for less.

We have a true love-relationship with some dresses, don't we ^^ Tell me about yours in the comments below!

Lolita is highly suggestive!

Under my youtube subscriptions there is an Asian girl that decided to do a "sweet Lolita make-up tutorial" and unfortunately one of her viewers didn't know what "Lolita" was, googled it and found out that "Lolita" is a very very bad word...

Her comment: "i hope you understand the term lolita refers to the sexualization of children ... the idea is completey repulsive".

I told her that the term "Lolita" has different meanings, it's a nickname, a nouvelle, a  movie, a Japanese streetfashion and in this case the video poster was talking about the last thing.

Someone else told the unknowing comment poster to get her facts straight, that Lolita has nothing to do with sex and I assume at that point the unknowing comment poster got angry and replied with "and by the way this so called style is highly suggestive!!"

Oh boy... here we go...

The original video poster then changed the title of the video because she doesn't want to insult anybody and apologised to the unaware comment poster, who replied: "Thank youuu :) I just wanted to point that out since i wanted to know what lolita was about and when I looked it up thats the definition I found so I was horrified, I understand there is a style also named that now"

So she didn't even know what Lolita looks like but it's highly suggestive? Did I get this right? Okay...

Sometimes I really wish "Lolita" would have a different name. If it was called "furilly-key" it would be so much easier... We are covering our bodies with so many layers of fabric, we are wearing bloomers so nobody can see our panties, the skirts are at knee length, we are not showing off any cleavage. What is so highly suggestive? It's not only this very ignorant person, many people consider it highly suggestive! Is it the stockings? Is it the frilly underpants? Or just the fact that we are wearing dresses? I have no idea and it's really frustrating...

I'm not highly suggestive, I'm BAD ASS!!

What is wrong with me?

You know, people say when you are pregnant you are craving ridiculous things like pickles with ice cream. I feel like something like this is happening to me but not with food but with Lolita dresses...

When Angelic Pretty first released the Honey Cake series I could not believe that they actually released something so terribly ugly. Now, I want it. BAD!

I swear to Momoko, my first reaction to this dress was: "Holy  mother of god, what kind of drugs are the designers on? They are raping fabric!"
And now I'm willed to pay 300€ for this particular dress. I can't effort it. I'm still paying back the money my Mom lent me for Paris ^____^" There is absolutely no way I could buy this any time soon (it's also sold out and hardly shows up on Closet Child or the sales comm) but I really really want it. It's yellow and red and sooo ugly I just have to love it!

It's not a pretty dress. I have no idea why I want it. I just do...

What are you craving at the moment? Tell me in the comments.

PS: Yeah, can't sleep -.-

Lolita Stereotypes

Today I found something really funny ^^

An artist on Deviantart draw 9 "Lolita Stereotypes". Here is her gallery.

I'm kind of glad that I didn't find myself in this pictures. I don't fit one particular stereotype... I match almost all of then in some way ^^

I am a cam-whore, not how it is described but I enjoy photo shoots very much and it is rude if someone takes your picture without asking. Even though I always deny that I am a lifestyler, the description really fits ^^  I love tea!
The one stereotype that fits best is "alternative". Yes, I smoke/drink/have orgies while wearing brand... well, I quit smoking and I don't like having sex fully dressed but "alternative" seems to be all about pushing boundaries and you know how much I enjoy that. Also, it's badass and who doesn't want to be badass? :D

Which stereotype can you relate to the most? Tell me in the comments below!

Fashionshow at the Lolita Convention in Paris 2011

I finally managed to edit and upload the video from the fashion show at the Lolita Convention in Paris.

But... the quality sucks monkey balls. It's really bad! I'm sorry :/ Well, if you want, you can watch it. It's probably not worth your time...

Breast Cancer Awareness

On this day, two years ago, my Granny died of breast cancer. Well, it wasn't the breast cancer that killed her in the end but it all started out as breast cancer.

It was incredible painful to watch her in her last month and I'm crying as I'm writing this. I don't want your pity, I want to make you aware that your chances of getting cured from breast cancer are very high if you recognise the cancer in the early stages.

The best thing would be to get a mammogram very year from your 18th birthday on if their are cases of breast cancer in your family. That's a bit drastic, I know. I tend to get a bit paranoid when it comes to cancer. That's why I run straight to the doctor whenever I feel the tiniest knot. That's another thing you can do, touch your boobies. I'm serious ^^ Feel your breasts, figure out how they should feel if you are healthy and if you feel a knot or something has changed, go get it checked.

This is a very important topic to me. Last month was breast cancer awareness month and as much as it hurts me, that it was too late for my granny, it still makes me very happy and optimistic, that people around the world are working hard on a cure for breast cancer.

Halloween and Nr. 24

Hello dear readers!

I hope you had a happy Halloween yesterday. I don't mind so much about the tradition since it comes from the USA and is not part of my countries tradition but it's a good occasion to get all frilled up and party :D

I was wearing my Candy Treat JSK, a fake heart in a glass jar as my bag and my new white and red Rock Star Wig, which means I completed another thing from my list. Number 24: Order the white/red Rockstar Wig from GLW and wear it with your Candy Treat JSK. I love love love how the whole Outfit turned out. I'm sorry that I don't have a better picture but I want to have a photo shoot with this exact outfit anyway.

My evening was pretty shitty though... I waited in line for one and a half hour to get into a party where the tickets were sold out almost an hour before I arrived. I wanted to get home but forgot my car keys in my friends apartment. It was so foggy on the motorway, it took my twice as long to get home as usual and when I got home, I was locked out and had to sleep in the car... yeah, not the best Halloween but at least I was pretty.

How did you spend your Halloween? Tell me in the comments below!
