Lolita Blog Carnival Friday: Who Inspires You?

Hello cats and kittens!

Yeah, I'm doing one of those again: Lolita Blog Carnival Friday! "Who inspires you in Lolita fashion?" is todays topic.

First of all, my biggest inspiration is probably the "eglcommunity" tag on instagram. You can never go wrong with that.

Other than that, there are a view people that inspire me for different reasons:

  1. Nana Evangel - Accessories

  2. Nana has a great sense for accessories. She knows how to take an outfit to the next level. I admire that a lot.

  3. Duplica - Theme Integration

  4. If anybody knows how to integrate a theme into an outfit, it's Duplica! The takes that stuff seriously. Her dedication is admirable.

  5. Scarlet Sedusa - Hair
  6. Scarlet has by far the best Lolita hair styles in the western world. I love that she works with her own hair. Wigs are great but I would love to see more natural hair back in Lolita fashion.

  7. Misako Aoki - Hair, Accessories
  8. Even though I'm not a huge fan of her personally, her hair game is on point! Her bangs are glorious and I'm working towards having bangs like her. One could say she's my bangspiration! *hehe*

  9. Minori - Styling

  10. Minori is a shironuri artist and inspiring in so many ways but especially because she cares so little about what other people think about her. It doesn't benefit her happiness so she doesn't bother with it. That's just awesome!

Check out all the other participants:

And here's my video on this topic! I'm grumpy and don't wear any makeup. FUN!

Vegan Marzipan Spritz Biscuits

Hello cats and kittens!

It's Christmas time! And as a Stepford wife I of course have to bake 10 different kinds of cookies. I'm kidding but I did make some vegan Marzipan Spritzgebäck and I wanted to share the recipe.

You will need:

  • 200g Marzipan
  • 200g (vegan) Butter
  • 100g Sugar
  • 1 Egg (Substitute, in this case soy flour and water)
  • 4 drops Bitter Almond Extract (optional)
  • 100g Starch
  • 200g Flour
  • 1ts Baking Soda
For the egg subsitute I used 1 tbs of soy flour and 2 tbs of water, mixed them together until it's well combined. I did that first to get it out of the way.

Mix together butter, sugar and the "egg" until creamy. Cut the marzipan in small pieces and add it to the bowl. Mix well. I didn't chop the marzipan small enough and it was a hassle getting it evenly combined with the butter and sugar.

The original recipe calls for bitter almond extract but in the description they forget to add it, I guess it can't be that important then. If you happen to have it at home, add 4 drops now.

Add starch, flour and baking soda to the bowl and combine everything to a soft dough. It's a very soft dough because it has to go through a piping nozzle. I used a Kaiser 11mm star nozzle and that was way too small. Get a bigger one if possible.

Put about one third of the dough in a piping bag and pipe little rounds on some baking paper. Make them as evenly as possible if you want to fill them with jam like I did. Bake the cookies at 170°C ("air circulation" mode if your oven has that) and bake until light golden-ish around the edges.

Let them cool completely before you stick 2 of them together with jam (I used super fancy rose apricot jam) and dunk them into chocolate. This is optional, the cookies are damn yummy on their own.

Did you bake any cookies this year already? Tell me in the comments below!

Want of the day: Croissant Necklace

Hello cats and kittens!

Ages ago I came up with the idea of "want of the day" which is pretty self-explanatory: It's the thing I want most on that day. Never continued the series because I'm a bad blogger but lying in bed today I thought to myself: "That's a 5 minute blog entry, I might as well type it while my noodles are cooking."

So that's why I'm doing.

My want of the day is this croissant necklace from "La Boutique de Marie Antoinette".

I was scrolling trough twitter when I saw that Misako Aoik retweeted the following:
Maria Antonia, better known as Marie Antoinette, was originally from Austria and only "changed" her name when she got married to Louis XVI, King of France and Navarre. Apparently he was a prude and didn't want to dance the horizontal tango with Maria Antonia, which is why she asked her mother, Maria Theresia - Holy Roman Empress, Queen of Germany - for advice in the sack. As far as I know some of those letters are still in existence. Talk about awkward.

Anywho, I clicked on it because I'm quite the fan of Maria Antonia and found this amazingness which is the croissant necklace! Isn't it fantastic?! I think it is.

What's the weirdest thing you found on the internet lately? Tell me in the comments below!

Lolita Blog Carvinal: A Comfy Lolita Outfit

Hello Everyone!

I am very sorry that I am neglecting this blog :( Maybe it's because I take almost all my pics with my smartphone and typing on my phone is such a hassle. I do feel bad about it because I just saw that I reached 91 followers, which is pretty awesome. Thank you very much <3

So, on to the actual topic! It's another Friday, which means it's Blog Carnival Friday. WEEEH! Today I'm talking about comfy Lolita outfits. See, here is the thing: I'm lazy. Or maybe it's not laziness but the fact that I like being comfy so much. Jenna Marbles would say "I ain't got time fo dat!".

I don't have time for outfits that are not comfy. That's why I don't wear high heels (or very reluctantly), that's why I don't wear corsets, that's why ALL my co-ords are comfy.

Now, how to I do that? How do I make all my outfits so comfy? Here's a short list on how to comfy Lolita:

  1. Wear flats. Even uncomfortable flats are more comfortable than heels.
  2. Exchange your blouses for cut-sews. Once you go cut-sew, you never go back. Especially if you're big boobed like me.
  3. All the shirring all the way.
  4. Get dresses that look good without a petticoat (I wouldn't suggest to go to a meetup in such a dress but it's good enough for lounging around your house or tea with your friends).
  5. Stop caring about the fact that your hair is so straight and embrace it. Or more generally speaking, wear your hair open, in it's natural state.
  6. Find a small head bow that fits everything and doesn't give you a headache.
  7. Chose tights over socks (that's a personal preference tho since socks tend to leave the pattern imprinted on my legs after I wear them).
  8. Find a make-up routine that takes the littlest amount of effort to make you look cute. For me that's bb cream as concealer, mascara only on the top lashes and a little blush.
  9. Screw jewelry.
However, if you are going to a meet-up, just suck it up and feel a little discomfort for a while. Pretty hurts ;-)

What are your tips for a comfy Lolita outfit? Leave it in the comments below.

Angelic Pretty: Happy Ice Cream

It has been quite the journey, hasn't it?

Well... it all starts waaay back in the spring of 2009. Still in school, I just turned 20 when I stumble across the English Angelic Pretty web shop (this web shop doesn't exist any longer, they shut it down for whatever reason in 2014). Since I got some money for my birthday I decide to order directly from a Japanese brand shop for the very first time.

Happy me is very very happy with the Happy Ice Cream Headdress that I ordered. My fable for weird/ridiculous looking headdresses started early as you can see. At the time, as I was still in school, not working, studying for my a-levels, I only was able to buy the headdress and not the matching JSK, but since I was in fashion school, I thought it would be easy to sew something matching.

Oh boy was I wrong! This particular shade of blue was nowhere to be found. No where! Not in my hometown, not in Vienna, not online... not anywhere! After I gave up looking for a fabric with polka dots, I tried to get a uni-coloured fabric. Again, no luck at all. It's just a damn hard fabric to match!

A year passes, I finished school, I move out. The dress is still in the back of my mind, taunting me, when it suddenly pops up in the sales comm. 180$ plus shipping. Kinda expensive for a university student, who can only work on Saturdays. Since rent want's to be paid, I cry all the tears and don't buy it.

Two months later, it pops up in the sales comm again. Same seller, she lowered the price. It's a lot cheaper not with only 120$ plus shipping. I message her that I have to transfer money to my PayPal account. She is fine with that. The transfer takes unusually long. I message her again after it took a long week to get the money on my account. She writes me back. The dress in gone. She thought I lost interest since it took so long.

ALL THE TEARS! All of them...

Times goes by, the dress is nowhere to be found. If it shows up on auction sites it's the wrong colour. I am frustrated, thinking about selling the headdress but I love it too much and since I bought it, I only wore it out twice. I don't want to give away the first piece I ever ordered directly from a brand store before I've worn it properly.

Now it's 2014. All my friends are looking for the dress. Everybody knows to look for it when they're in Japan but it's like the earth opened up and swallowed all the dresses. Once it showed up in the Closet Child online store. That day I woke up to 4 different messages telling me the dress in online, just to find out it's the wrong colour again.

Oh well. After 5 years of looking for it, I was pretty convinced I was never going to own it. Out of pure desperation I even messaged a girl, if she would sell me the dress, because I saw on her blog that she had it but I never got an answer and I felt bad about harassing her too.

Then, out of nowhere, I see that I have a Facebook message from somebody I don't know. It's the girl from the blog, she wants to sell the dress to me! I can't believe what's going on, I suspicious to no end, check her Facebook, her LiveJournal feedback, everything I can get my hands on and it seems legit. She's not a lot on Facebook and the correspondence takes what seems like forever. Not for a second did I believe that I would actually get my dream dress.

Until it was delivered this morning.

And it is sooooo perfect! It's more perfect than anything else I own, it'seven better than I thought it would be. It's super fluffy, the built in petticoat is amazing, it pretty much renders an extra petticoat unnecessary, unless you want super fluff. The full body shirring makes it amazingly comfortable even for a big-boobed girl like me without turning you into the Michelin mascot.

I can't wait to wear it out. Tomorrow there's a meetup in Vienna but it might be too cold to wear it and that really breaks my heart.

To come to an end, this was the story how it took me 5 years to hunt down my dream dress. Don't ever give up!

What are you currently looking for? Are you searching for your dream dress too? Maybe even longer than me? Tell me in the comments below!
